I was considering getting iphones for my kids as Christmas gifts....until I found out that the data plan is $30 per phone on top of the text messaging plan, minutes, etc. and there is NO family data plan for these phones. I have 2 kids in college and 1 in high school so it would be an additional $90 a month for me. Is it really worth it?

It is definately worth it. Most of the apps that you have on your IPhone use data. Facebook, Twitter, Pandora...all use data.

Yeah truth be told you'll probably use it a lot. Most people I know that have one used the data more than anything.

Absolutely worth the data charge. Checking emails. Searching the Internet, and sending text messages all use data. You can stay on the Internet all day and not worry about being charged any overage fees.

Smart phones need a data plan, the plan supports the function of the phone. I felt the same way when i looked at the DROID, why should i have to buy a data plan, but when it was explain to me, i realized the data plan is the platform of the DROID/smartphones.

I would never pay the data charges for it. The only way to have one is on contract with free internet! definatley.

ok..One reason, Vacations. Think about it, say You live in Cali and wanted to Go too Say NY. Well you can get an App from the Itunes App store that can help u navigate NY City's VAST..city.OR..your kids are Hungry an u wanna find a Quick place too eat that's close too you wala!! App for that. Wanna call a Cab..App for that, Wanna Ride the Express welp there's n App for that..so it's EXTREMELY worth the data charges. Trust me I used to think the same thing..BUT..it's really helpful in the long run.
