Like many iPhone users, you may have assigned custom ringtones to each of your contacts in order to know who's calling before you glance at your phone. What many users may not know is that you can also create custom vibration patterns for each contact in order to know who is calling even when your phone is on silent. This simple tutorial will outline the procedure for creating and assigning custom vibrations for any given contact.

STEP 1: From your iPhone main screen, navigate to 'Settings'.

STEP 2: Once in 'Settings', select 'Sounds'.

STEP 3: When in the 'Sounds' menu, scroll to the bottom until you see the 'Vibration Patterns' section and select 'Vibration'.

STEP 4: Once in the 'Vibration' selection, you will see the default vibration patterns at the top, followed by the 'Custom' menu. Here, you will select 'Create New Vibration'.

STEP 5: This will bring up a screen where you will be instructed to 'Tap to create a vibration pattern'. Simply tap and hold your finger on the screen to create each vibration and remove your finger from the screen when complete. You can alternate tapping for short periods or long periods of time to create a variety of different patterns. Each individual vibration can be anywhere from 1/4 second up to 5 seconds long, with a total allotted vibration time of 10 seconds per pattern. Select 'Stop' when finished with your pattern (if shorter than 10 seconds) and then select 'Save' in the top right corner and name your custom vibration. Congratulations! You've just created your custom vibration pattern!
