This guide will show you how to use the basic camera features of your iPhone 5. You will be able to take still photos and video as well as self-portraits. In addition, the iPhone 5 features a LED flash on the back, so you can use the flash light when in need.

    1. To quickly turn your camera on while your iPhone is locked, swipe up the camera icon from the screen. You will now see a rectangle where the camera is focused at that moment. The iPhone 5 has face detection, so it will automatically detect up to 10 faces and will focus on them. You will see a rectangle for each face detected.
    2. To take a photo, tap the camera icon located on the left side of the screen, or press one of the volume buttons.
    3. To zoom in or out, you only need to pinch the screen.

    Set the Focus and Exposure

Before you start taking a photo, it’s best to set the focus and exposure to make sure the picture won’t turn out too dark, too light or unfocused. To do that:

    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. Point the camera to an object - > tap the object that you see on the screen. This will temporarily turn off face detection.
    3. In order to lock the focus and exposure – touch and hold the screen until the rectangle pulses. The AE/AF Lock should now be displayed at the bottom of the screen. The focus and exposure will be locked until you touch the screen again.

    To Take a Panorama Photo

    1. Tap Options.
    2. Now tap Panorama.
    3. Next, you have to point your iPhone where you want to start the picture and tap on the camera icon to begin. You now need to pan slowly in the direction of the arrow. Also, try holding the iPhone steady and keep the arrow directly on the top of the horizontal line.
    4. Tap Done when finished.
    5. To reverse the panning direction, simply tap on the arrow.

    To Take HDR Photos

With the iPhone 5 you can even take HDR photos. To have great results, it’s best if both the iPhone and the subject stand still. To turn on the HDR, you have to:

    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. Tap Options.
    3. Set HDR ON.

    To Record a Video

    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. Tap on the Video icon next to the Camera icon to switch to video.
    3. Tap the red dot to start recording a video. You can also press one of the volume buttons to record.
    4. If you want to capture a still photo while recording, tap the camera icon.

    To Edit a Photo

You have several options of editing a photo: you can rotate it, auto-enhance, remove red-eye and crop it. When you are viewing a picture, tap Edit and then choose the desired tool.
Rotate: this will rotate your picture.
Auto-enhance: This tool will enhance the overall color saturation, darkness or lightness as well as other qualities of a picture.
Remove red-eye: You need to tap each red eye to have it corrected.
Crop: You need to drag the corners of the grid and drag the photo to change its position. When finished, tap Crop.
