Apple iPad: $th Generation vs 3rd Generation

I have the 3rd Generation IPad with retina display but old dock.
Am I right in saying that the only difference with the 4th generation one is that it has an A6 processor and Lightening connector? I can't see the reasoning behind releasing this version, aside from standardising the new dock... thoughts?

From what I'm reading, the iPad 4 has a better camera, at 1.2 megapixels.

Like you mentioned, the chip is different. According to Apple's website, the A6X chip on the iPad 4 is twice as fast as the A5X chip.
