This really isnt a question, because im just going to call up and ask, but I kind of wanted to see everyone else's opinion on this.

Well as we all know, AT&T turned to Cingular, then Cingular turned back into AT&T. well with all this changes, there are all these different locked phones from the three changes that only work with the sim card of that time. (confusing sorry) Well I bought a plan and phone from AT&T yesterday, the 450minutes for 39.99$, for business use, no data no txt just the simple plan. (Such a shame too, since its the sync, and there is so much on the phone I want to do!! :-( ..)

Well two weeks ago, I went into the AT&T store and bought a prepaid sim card, well those stupid idiots, have the nerve to brand those sims with Cingular logos and codes, so they now dont work with any of the at&t branded phones that are out now.

I want to activate the prepaid sim, so I can put it in my SYNC and download various things, and use the net.

What will AT&T do for me now that their prepaid sims wont work with any of their phones.

Are they trying to make their sims only work with there selected phones??

Sorry, but I think you are misunderstanding everything here. The old ATT Wireless was taken over by an existing cell phone carrier, Cingular. And that means that there were 2 sets of differenly locked phones. Cingular slowly migrated the old ATT customers over to Cingular, not all of them are over yet.
The new take over by ATT does not involve another Cell carrier, so there are no phones locked a different carrier to deal with. All that is happening is a simple name change, from the customer perspecitive. The Cingular sims work in the phones whether they have the new ATT logo or the old Cingular logo. So the reps were doing everything right. They have a stock of perfectly good sims that work on all the phones that ATT sells, whether marked with Cingular or the New ATT. So there is no reason not to sell them.

Well, I have to not agree with you there, lol.

I have tried several sim's. Old 32k cingular sim cards, the 64k ones after that, then even the Cingular branded 3G sims, before the name change, all of them dont work. I have the sync branded to at&t, and the only sim that works in the phone are the new at&t branded 3g ones.

My brother is using at&t but he got his in the middle of the name change, so it still has the cingular logo on it. It doesnt work in my phone, and my new at&t sim doesnt work in his cinglar branded phone...

I called at&t today on the issue, and the tech guy had no idea what I was talking about so I just thanked him and hung up.

I would just post this without trying it out first, lol

I absolutely agree with the tech guy. The cingular branded sims work on new att phones. I see no reason that they would not.

Why would I lie and start a fake thread...

I just tried it again, my friend just upgraded and she got the Nokia 6126, she popped her cingular 3g sim and it worked, i put it in my SYNC, and it just says "Sim Password" and asks me to put in the code. just like all the other sims did.

And no, none of the sim pins are on.

I can only put the new At&t branded 3g sim card, and it works...

would you like me to put on video of me trying all the different sims... i would be more then glad to do it.

    Re: Sim card...

Ok, i did some more research, the phone has an option in the security menu, "Sim Lock" which is set to enabled, I looked it up in the manual, and it is a feature which will lock the sim to the phone, so only the phone will only work with that sim.

I have to enter a code to disable it, I already tried to reset the phone but it still is enabled.

Do I have to call at&t to get the code for this....

why the hell would this be enabled...

I am going to x-post this question up in the samsung thread if that is ok, since it is a samsung phone.

i appericate the responses though! thanks.
