So do I need to purchase a add-on to get the video share working on my phone? Or is it now, by a pay-per-use basis?

I remember they were offering like 4.99 for 25 minutes or something like that.

But now, there are no options to add it on, and when I go to my account, and I find a link to add it on, there are no options, its just blank.

    So whats going on...?

    Re: Video Share question.

Because of all the conditions required to make it work, it is not worth the extra cost. There are only four compatible phones. Both the sender and recipient must be in a 3G area with a compatible phone. It would seem that the two parties would have to make a regular call to make sure everything was working right before the sender started the video stream. It might be simpler to send a video by MMS, which has fewer preconditions and does not cost extra if one has a messaging package.

You didn't answer my question. I know what you have just said, but all I am asking is do I have to buy a plan to make it work or is it by a pay per sure basis?

On the following website, pay per use is listed along with the prepaid options near the bottom of the page:
Get Started - Wireless from AT&T, formerly Cingular

Since there is no Add to Cart link for that, I would think that it requires no action in advance to use it.

In the Settings/Connectivity/Connections, there is IMS Settings. The Service must be turned On. Then follow the steps in the link below:

I have no one to call, not that I would try, for the reasons I stated above.

I was looking in the User Guide and they talked about red marks to the right of the 3G symbol. Do you and your friend see those marks while you are in a call? The Video Share should then be a softkey on the right. All connections in a 3G area might not be 3G. You have to look for the 3G symbol with sufficient signal strength that it will not switch to EDGE or GPRS during your call. If the connection drops back to EDGE, you cannot have simultaneous voice and data.

I am not sure if this is an error but AT&T lists only individual plans as compatible with video share.

I too read that, we both had 6 out of 7 bars.
the 3g with the lines, just means its transmitting data across the network, and why it would randomly start during a call would be beyond me.

if it did that every call, then you would be charged for the data that is being transfered without your knowledge...

You are not charged just because the 3G symbol is on your phone. You have to be in an active data session sending or receiving data to be charged. Speaking of that, I wonder if they charge you by the minute as well as by the kilobyte for video share calls. They have a category for video share under data in OLAM.

The 3G is used for both voice and data. If you are in a 3G area, you might see the connection switch back and forth between 3G and EDGE/GPRS during a call. The 3G probably gives priority to data and might bounce you back to EDGE during a voice only call since you do not need the data connection.

It might be best to test your video share calling while you are both in the same location so you can coordinate your actions better. Once you get the steps down, you should look for the right softkey showing Video Share during a call. You will have to keep the flip open and keep pressing a key to keep the screen lit so that you can see what the softkey indicates.

No no no, you didnt understand what I wrote, I dont make much sense, sorry. lol...

I know you don't get charged for when the 3G symbol is up there, but when it has either the G, EDGE, or 3G symbol with the lines next to it. (Indicating data is being sent and received, you are being charged for the data usage.)

In the manual, it mentions that you can only make a video call when those lines are present, which doesn't make any sense because why would they be there in the first place when making a regular call?!?!

To your second suggestion, When we tried this we were in a completely 3G area, with almost full bars, it never switches to edge or G when i'm in that area. we were sitting down right next to each other at a resturant that we go to often, and still nothing..

I know I can just call cingular, but ..no offence to any of your cingular reps... but I cant stand there tech support, transfering me, having to wait the 20 minutes to speak with someone I can barely understand!

    Re: Video Share question.

Ok, so I talked with a VERY helpful sales rep today on the phone, He quickly got the information I need.

Well apperently, it is not available in all 3G areas, like advertised.

Long Beach, Burbank, Bakersfield, Passadena, East Los Angeles,... the list goes on and on and on, even though there might be 3G coverage, the video share feature is not yet available in those area's... Which is completely insane because of all the hype they are giving at the at&t stores about this stupid feature!

I dont really care, cause I wouldnt use it, beacuse one way video is unnecessary in my eyes, why not just release the phone with two way video like every other country in the world? haha.

Oh well, I still like at&t.

Thanks for your help though. :-)
