ive been wanting an Iphone forever now and the only problem is ATT doesnt have coverage around our area. So i was wondering, if i went an hour or two to another area to purchase one and start a plan, would i still get decent reception in my area?

the area would be a major city in our state, and att has coverage there and around but where im located is about an hour or two away

    thanks

I checked the coverage area out and i would end up being outside side the shown coverage area.

would this mean i would would get no bars or would this mean id be roaming

Most likely no bars, like Ellen said AT&T does offer a 30 day trial period. You could always get the phone and see for yourself.

Where are you checking this coverage area? I checked AT&T's "Coverage Viewer," and I was a bit confused. Also, is it true that AT&T's coverage is not as good as other service providers? This seems to be the consensus among my friends and acquaintances.

    Re: ATT coverage area

Each providers coverage is different. Some are stronger in areas where others are weaker. Each has there good and bad points. On each website is a coverage map. You can zoom in to see cities and streets. And they show where they say there is strong, good, weak and no signal. What works best for you is the company you should go with. Although if all of your friends and the people you call are with the same provider, you can save a lot of money by using mobile to mobile.
Try out the provider and see if they have good coverage where you live, work, and use your phone.

For all of the complaints that people seem to have about AT&T's coverage, I've yet to have an issue. I live in the Western New York Area and have traveled to Boston, Dallas, an Phoenix, all of which seemed to have great 3G coverage. Sure, in out-lying areas you might have signal issues, but for the most part I think the coverage issue with AT&T is over-blown.
