I have been eyeballing this phone for a long time.
I am not a business man, but I have longed for a device which combines the internet/camera/phone with an electronic organizer where I can use MS Word, have a calender.
The Palm Treo 680 in Crimson is the best.
I was stunned on ATT's site today to read it is only $149.
I was about to get but figured I'd do some homework.
I have a sneaking suspicion this is too good to be true.
My questions
1) Why is this phone price dropping?
-I am concerned this a bad sign that the phone is going to be obsolute very quickly. While I don't have to have the newest up to date model, if I did I would have purchases this already, I don't want to have a white elephant in two weeks.
-Also, I worry if I buy this phone now, by Jan/Feb the price will be even lower.
-Is either of these the cases or is it just an instance of ATT trying to compete better with Verizon/the iPhone?
2) Further, is this an indication the phone has poor quality and reliability? -Again I don't want to get something with poor reliability or battery?
-Again is either of these the cases or is it just an instance of ATT trying to compete better with Verizon/the iPhone?
3) Speaking of this phone, how is it's reliability?
-Also, how is the battery?
4) I'd also like to know, one of the main pros of this phone is the ability to create MS documents.
-I wanted to know is there a way you can easily synch this to your home computer?
-I have many documents on my home computer, and it would be a drawback if it required an IT degree to figure out how I can transfer documents back and fourth.
5) Costs.
-I am on a budget at the moment.
-While I look forward to the internet in the future, I don't need it at this moment.
-I wanted to know can I purchase and enjoy this phone with a very basic service, or will it require me getting the internet or other more expensive service plans?
-If I could for now enjoy the phone as a phone/camera/electric organizer/MS Word and not have to pay more than my basic plan that would be ideal, but if I have to get a fancy internet or another plan, ugh.
-I can wait a few months before using the internet here.
Thanks.

Re: Palm Treo 680 Crimson and ATT
Honestly...I'll try to sum up all your questions with one answer.
I don't think the Palm is a bad device, but Palms seem to be losing their flair compared to HTC phones and the Iphone. I think Palm is on it's last legs as a hardware producer unless they come out with some phones that aren't dated...not to say that they are bad but they haven't changed much since they first came out.
I think a Palm with WinMo would be a good buy if you like the keyboard, otherwise I think the HTC products (8525 is $99 refurb) work much better all around.
