Ok I used to trouble shoot pda/smartphones for Cingular before during and for a short time after the change to Att. If u are experiencing problems with ur treo dropping connection, power cycling, any network related issues look at this.

There is a 6 digit number ending with a letter next to the gold contacts on most sim cards

if that number ends with the letter G it is one of the Gem based cards, thus being either a Gem, Gemplus, or Gemalto, These cards have major compatibality issues with the treos and palm at the time i was there was unable to answer to this but were very shocked i had identified the issue which was brought to their attention by a supvisor after i had left. They were aware of this and have no answer.

My recomendation look at ur sim card next to the gold contacts.. if the 6 digit number ends in G take it back and request a non Gem based sims card. most stores have no clue to this so show them the letter on the sims card. Remember this will be part of the 6 digit number

Thank me later

Ching
