I lost my Verizon phone last week, and decided to cancel it.

I intend to buy a new iPhone on 7/11 when Apple releases the 3G model. Can I port my old number over, even though the account will have been closed for about 4 weeks?

Most porting websites I've found recommend you to leave your old account open until you're ready to port, but don't say exactly how important that is.

    Thanks!

Nope.. You can not port a number unless you own it "per say" If you account has been closed for 4 weeks, good chance that number was already given out.. Give it a call and see.. If not, you can try to request that number when activating you iphone... Good luck man.
