My wife and I are currently on a cellular one plan. We have over a year left on the plan. We really don't have any problems with at&t. This weekend I busted my phone (nokia 6085). My wife has a standard nokia flip phone that is better than my 6085. Since we can start a new contract with at&t without penalties for breaking our cellular one contract we went and looked at what at&t has to offer so that i could possibly get a new phone. I really don't do much except text a little and use air minutes. The wife texts a ton and is on the phone a lot. She fell in love with the apple iphone. She was introduced to the internet on it and couldn't put it down. She is on the internet every night on her laptop. The plan was that I will take her current flip phone and we will get her the iphone. My question is there any other smartphones that at&t offers that may be better? On the iphone I like the wifi, the ability for her to check her internet email, fully displayed internet pages and the bluetooth. My network at home is all microsoft. We don't have an ipod. Your comments please

    Re: AT&T phone selection

The iPhone to me is in a catagory of its own. I would not trade mine for any other that AT&T has to offer or any other company cell phone for that matter. Your wife made a very intellegent choice; my congrats to her.

    Re: AT&T phone selection

Well, there are some upsides and downsides to the iPhone, especially the new 3G. First of all the iPhone plan is going to run you 30 dollars a month extra on your plan per phone for data usage. Second, the new 3G gets 3G speeds where there is 3G service, in most areas you'll still be on EDGE. Also if your wife has more than one email account she cant use multiple accounts on the iPhone mail app. The iPhone does have a bunch of great features like the wifi, internet anywhere, the app store, itunes, ipod, google maps, etc.

You have a few options when going to a smartphone on att. There is the blackberry which does every thing the iphone does data wise, and the plan is 30 dollars extra like the iphone. On the blackberry curve you can sync up to 9 or 10 email accounts.

You can also get a non smartphone with a data package for only 15 dollars a month through att. ATT just launched a new phone called the LG Vu that has internet capabilities, as well as their new CV video app for internet videos.

As far as upgrading, you have to be into your contract at least 20 or 21 months, in most cases. Looking to buy a phone outright would run you upwards of 600 dollars a phone
