I'm have a REALLY difficult time locating cell phones that I might obtain to use with my AT&T carrier, such as the LG VX-8300, that has the feature whereby the incoming caller ID number and/or name are verbally spoken as the ringer so that you can "hear" who's calling.
Any suggestions on models which can do this?
TIA, John

Re: Verbal Caller ID announce
Windows Mobile 6.1 phones with Voice Command will announce incoming calls by name and telephone type if the information is in your phonebook. It works on my Samsung Blackjack II since I added the Windows Mobile 6.1 update. It should work with earlier versions of Windows Mobile if you install Voice Command as a purchased program. You can check the features of the phones at Phones (Phone Scoop) . There is a Phone Finder link on that page which lets you check the features and carrier to find phones which meet your specifications. There is another link at GSMArena.com - GSM reviews, opinions, votes, manuals, ringtones and more... where you can select a manufacturer on the left side and see the phones on the resultant pages. You can choose some filtering on the phone pages but voice caller ID is not one of them.

Re: Verbal Caller ID announce
I'm also looking for a cell phone that announces the name of the caller through a bluetooth headset. Surely this is a common requirement in this era when more and more states are requiring hands-free operation of cell phones while driving. You can't have true hands-free operation without the caller announcement feature thru a bluetooth headset. Yet it is extremely difficult to find such phones...or even to determine whether or not a specific phone has that feature. And often phones that appear to have the feature...such as HTC Touch Pro2 phones that include Microsoft Voice Command which has caller announcement as one of its features...the caller announcement feature often doesn't work. In the case of HTC Touch Pro2 phones, the included bluetooth stack is incompatible with most of the features of Microsoft Voice Command. Some fancy new phones, such as the (not yet available in the US) HTC HD2 and the Verizon Android don't even seem to have voice dialing at all. What the heck is going on with this industry? It certainly isn't producing phones with even the most basic features that users require.

Re: Verbal Caller ID announce
The Motorola Karma QA1 works with AT&T, speaks the caller information and is not terrible on the wallet.

Re: Verbal Caller ID announce
Ame,
Seeking further clarification: Are you saying that the Motorola Karma QA1 not only speaks the name of the caller (if it's in the phone book) but will do it through a
bluetooth headset?
That would be very good news, though I admit I'd prefer a much more advanced phone,
e.g. 3.6" or larger screen, minimum of 800x480 resolution, 1 GHz Snapdragon processor.

Re: Verbal Caller ID announce
Robert,
The phone is Bluetooth capable, and it seems to suggest that the names would be read out over Bluetooth headphone/headset; however, we do not have a Bluetooth headset for this phone.
Another note, the names are read aloud, but when the name is not known, the actual phone number is also read aloud.
I actually got to this forum because I was hoping to find something similar to use on my iPhone. It's a great program!

Re: Verbal Caller ID announce
My Samsung Instinct has a voice notification that also works though my Motorola blue tooth. The phones other features are acting up and i am having a hard time find another phone with that feature. I LOVE IT! It says, CALL FROM 'NAME' or MESSAGE FROM 'name'. If the name is not in my contacts, it says the number. If it's private or blocked it says so. It announces it twice and then plays asigned ring tone. Its so nice not to have to fumble for the phone while driving to see who is calling.
It's like that is the only phone feature I care about.
