Does anyone have this phone? Is it good? Pros/cons?
Do you have to pay for a data plan for this phone as well?
Is it covered under AT&T's insurance plan?
    Really need to know ASAP!

    AT&T Quickfire

    Pros:
    -it's fun to use
-screen is very vibrant (the resolution is pretty good; it's no BB Bold, but...)
-OS is very easy to pick up and use
-1.3 megapixel camera does better than expected
-3G makes the MediaNET run pretty fast
-Call quality is pretty impressive; clear and consistent
-Multitasking, big plus. The menu key allows you to open and use multiple applications without having to close another. This works extremely well when you're checking text messages and browsing the web at the same time
-Phone feels very solid despite it's look
    -slide is quick and solid
    -NO DATA PACKAGE REQUIRED

    Cons:
-text messaging isn't threaded. I don't see why any developer would make text messaging clients that are not threaded anymore (threaded messaging is like AOL IM messaging; you see what you and your recipient have typed in the same window)
-the keys on the keyboard are somewhat hard to press
-ringers are not very loud at all, and there doesn't seem to be an option to have your phone ring and vibrate

As for the size of the phone, I didn't mention it because it's really not an issue. If you have ever used a Sidekick (any model) then using the Quickfire isn't going to be too much of a stretch for you. AT&T does provide insurance for the Quickfire, which is a good thing.

All in all, pretty great phone for what you pay for it.

I think I've posted this link in a few topics, but I will continue to because you can look up any cell phone and read reviews, get specs, etc etc. Phone Arena - cell phone reviews, news and specs

    Re: AT&T Quickfire reviews?

I found this to be a very disappointing phone. There are design issue and stability issues.

    Design issues:

I find the UI to be really clumsy by comparison with normal phones. It takes many more interactions to accomplish simple tasks like turning on an alarm than it does on a typical flip phone. Since it doesn't acutally provide any UI features that aren't there in basic flip phones, there's no excuse for that.

You also can't make new shortcuts -- something I've been able to do on the last two basic phones that I had. So it's actually a step backward in that regard.

Calendar display is also poorer than the lat two basic phones that I've had (a Motorola [Verizon] and a Nokia [ATT]). On all the other phones I've used (this is my fifth), I've been able to see all events in just a few clicks, in order. On this phone, you can get to a list of all events, but they're not sorted by date. In fact, they don't appear to be sorted at all. You can see a superficially nice calendar display, bu it provides only an easily missed indicator that there's anything scheduled on a date (a tiny dod right beneath the number).

Keyboard: I won't complain about the size of the keys -- they're small, but that's easy to see and if you look at it in the store you'll know whether or not you can use it. But the keycaps are badly labeled. There's not a strong intensity contrast between the color of the keys and the color of the letters on the keys. Also, the backlight only shows the FN values for the keys, not the main values -- so the phone would be more or less impossible to use in a darkeend room.

It also appears to have inordinately moisture-sensitive moisture indicator strips. Mine hasn't been exposed to any but normal North American in-home moisture levels, and it shows as having been moisture-compromised. This is actually a big deal: Unless you plan to keep the thin sealed in a ziplock, based on my experience, you're liable to take it out of warranty in the first month of use just by using it normally. For this reason alone, I'll scrupulously avoid ever buying a Starcom again. I don't need to swindle myself out of warranty coverage.

Overall the only reason i got this phone was for the keyboard and its "sidekick" type appeal, and on that front it delivers. But as for the touch interface and "useability" as a phone to make calls I wasn't really happy
