I have been reading in the FAQ and it seems that I could.

I need a super tough cell phone as I'm very rough on my phones. The Sonim phones look to be right up my ally.

I have an AT&T Cingular service now that the contract is either up or will be in a month or two. Can I just go buy a Sonim phone, or if anyone has a suggestion for a really tough cell phone, and put my SIM card it it and go?

    I live in IL.

    Thanks for any help.

Re: Can I use a Sonim phone on my AT&T service

Did I post this question in the wrong forum? I'm sorry if I'm to ignorant to warrant an answer, it's just I don't understand everything that's going on in the cell phone world. Quite frankly, I don't care, I just want a cell phone that will stand up to hard heavy use. I'm tired of buying new phones just because I got caught out in the rain fishing or it rattles around in the truck and quits working for whatever reason.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Both the Sonim XP3 Enduro and XP1 lack the 850 MHz band which is used by AT&T Mobilty in many of its markets. Depending upon your location, your reception may suffer. The phones have neither 3G nor EDGE data speed.

Thanks for the reply. I don't use the internet or texting features. I just want to use voice mail and make and receive calls.

Is there a rugged phone available that will support whatever you said, and everything I need to use.

    Thanks.

AT&T offers the Samsung SGH-a837 (Rugby) which has a GPS chip and has 3G.

The A837 looks good to me. If I buy one of these on ebay, will I be able to put my SIM card into it and go?

    Thanks!

Your SIM card can be put into any phone offered by AT&T Mobility. If you use an unbranded phone not offered by AT&T Mobility, the phone will require configuration to use multimrdia messaging and the Internet.

It might be more difficult to find newly issued phones from AT&T Mobility on eBay, Unless you do not wish to renew your contract, you can get the phone at a discount from AT&T Mobility.
