You pay in advance for your phone. If you got your phone in June, you paid for the day you opened your account until month end date. Then you pay in advance for the next month.

He's right...
Wireless carriers bill for services a month in advance; however, they do not charge the calling plan for a month in advance.
Generally, the way it works is you're assigned a bill cycle date. Let's say that date is June 15. You're charged from June 6 (day you got phone) until June 15 AND THEN from June 15 until July 15. Generally, you should then get your bill sometime after that. $80 actually seems kind of cheap for the first iPhone bill. I got a cell phone with nearly nothing on it and my first bill was nearly $90...and I was on the 450 min plan...
You might want to investigate this through your carrier.

ok. i paid an extra 65 bucks when i got my phone to go towards the first bill so it wouldn't be so high. the lady that serviced me made it sound like i'd get my first bill in july sometime. i knew my bill would be around 80-90 bucks, but didnt think i'd get the first bill soo soon.
