My house is approximately 8 miles south of the 3g tower and 7.8 miles northwest of the Edge Tower.

I have had a few dead spots in the home, so I bought a wi-ex YX-500 zboost and have had excellent results with getting 2-3 bars in the home after mounting it on an old TV antenna tower.

The problem is that one day it will be edge, then next 3g. When I was getting consistent 1-2 bar 3 coverage in the parts of the house that had coverage.

I have seen the directional antenna upgrade, but really don't want to spend the extra $70 bucks.

Is it possible to use the old TV antenna (which is nearly 4 feet long) still on the tower as it has a coax out, or could I use the antenna that came with the package and mount it on the arm of an old direct tv parabolic antenna and point it in the direction of the 3g tower? to improve 3g reception.

I've done some google searching which led me here, but all other info has been on wireless networks not cell phones

Not sure if it's possible. I wouldn't bother that's for sure. Good luck with your project.
