I am not due for an upgrade until September 3rd, however, I am leaving for school shortly. My parents and I went to at&t, and the guy we worked with (who my parents usually work with) said that it wouldn't be a problem to update now as long as I didn't want an iPhone. However, I am getting an iPhone. While I wouldn't mind waiting, my Blackberry is cracked, buttons don't work, and now won't really take a charge, so I really need a phone ASAP. The guy had initially suggested that I get a random phone, and return it when I was eligible for my real phone upgrade (which you can do within 30 days) so I don't have to deal with my literal Crackberry, as Apple is apparently very strict on upgrades. We chose not to do this to avoid a restocking fee, because my phone was still functioning fine at the time.

However, my question is this: if I were to go back to at&t and get the upgrade, wouldn't that mean that I could simply return it the next day and get an iPhone? If they will let me upgrade early for any other phone, my logic tells me that it should change my next upgrade to sometime two years (or 21 months) from now in the computer, and not keep track of this September 3rd date, which would, if I'm correct, mean I could simply go back the next day and exchange for an iPhone (even if it means I incur a restocking fee).

Does anybody know or have insight into this? Thanks!

    Re: Upgrade?

If you upgrade before you are eligible, you would pay more for the phone.
