This handset is designed for those in government, small business and enterprise jobs that will give users the cellular wireless capability along with the satellite access capability. The Cellular wireless capability will be the main mode and will fall back on the satellite mode for data, voice and messaging. Below is a statement made about the smartphone.

    If you reside in the US, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and territorial waters, this handset will provide you with expanded voice and data roaming coverage and backup satellite communications.

    Features of the Satellite Augmented Mobile Service with the TerreStar Genus dual-mode cellular/satellite smartphone include: Windows Mobile 6.5, a touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera and GPS. Of course with any smartphone from AT&T, you will are required to have a voice and smartphone data rate plans and a monthly satellite subscription feature.

    Although pricing and availability is unknown, it is said that the smartphone is already available. The voice and data plan does not include the use of the satellite network and will charge you per minute, per message and/or per roaming charges per megabyte.
