I cancelled service in 2008 because they could not get my service to work. They still are demanding $97 ... for nothing. They dinged my credit score and cost me plenty in higher rates for loans, insurance.. everything. They say too bad, we made this final.

A big comapny can ruin your score by demanding money for failed service.

DO not but AT&T.. they don't care about their customers.

AT&T, or any cellphone company, does not guarantee service. It is written in the Terms of Service. If you canceled your contract, you are obligated for the costs unless the company agrees to waive the fees. If you don't pay, your credit gets dinged. That is true for any contract, not just cellphones.

This is not about a service contract, this is about installing a land line in a house. When you order a land line, the obligation is on the provider to have the phone line actually work before demanding money.

AT&T doesn't care that they never had the service working, they only want money because I ordered it. They do not care that I never used the service and had it replaced when they couldn't get the land line to work, they only want their money.

I liken this to ordering something line, paying for it and never receiving the item. same thing here.
