Hello all,
I have been with att for 6yrs I guess now. Anyways, it was time for an upgrade, so I upgraded and got the HTC freestyle. But I never intended to use it. I dont want to use it. I just got it cause I had to select something.
Anyways, I want to sell it. My question is, is it safe for me to sell it? Can any part of the phone be identified with my account and allow another person to make charges to my account?
Thanks in advance.

The phone has no link to your account unless your SIM card is inserted in the phone. If you purchased the phone directly from AT&T, there is no penalty for selling the phone. If you purchased the phone from a reseller such as LetsTalk.com or Wirefly.com, there could be a penalty if someone used it on another AT&T line within one hundred eighty days of your purchase.

Re: Is it safe to sell my new cell phone. I dont like it
Thanks for the info Earl!
I purchased the phone from att by way of renewing my contract. 'Device Upgrade'.
I have heard that giving out your IMEI number can be a bad thing. And this new phone ofcourse contains my IMEI number.
When my new phone arrived, it had my new sim card in it. I just took it out of the new phone, and inserted it into my old phone. Would any of the above pose a problem?
Thanks again.

The phone is probably attached to your renewed contract.
At the end of your contract you will be free to do with it what you want.
Otherwise, you may face ETF. Contact you carriers customer support.

The ETF is connected only with your voice service. If you end that before the expiration of the contract, there may be an ETF after thirty days. You can use any phone you want as long as you keep a voice plan.

Re: Is it safe to sell my new cell phone. I dont like it
It should definitely be more than ok to sell your old phone. TO be extra sure just go in and do a factory reset (typically in your setting menu) or also most places will do it anyways before they resell it. Another option is to make sure you take your sim card and or micro-SD card out.
Also, if your looking to sell your phone, Gizmotrader - Sell Cell | Cash for Electronics | Sell Cell Phones | Sell iPhone | Sell Used Electronics is a great place to check out, I have sold a few old cellphones myself, and I would personally recommend them to anyone as they offer great prices, the set up to sell process is very easy, you can choose how you want to be paid, and the service is very prompt and all around great!Last edited by Gummib3ar; 05-01-2012 at 01:08 PM.

Yagnesh Patel :
"I found these guys are the best, Home page - they pay the highest dollar amount out of any smartphone trade-in program out there... They don't accept as many types of phones, but pay the highest dollar amount for the cell phones that they do accept. I was skeptical at first, but found their process to be hassle free and very easy - FedEx Free pickup for your phone, and very quick payment."

Re: Is it safe to sell my new cell phone. I dont like it
When you have an upgrade available you don't have to take it.You can elect to renew your contract and keep the old phone. But, since you have already done it, you should be able to sell your new phone. If you are worried about someone making charges on your account all you have to do is call AT&T before you sell it. Have service transferred off of that phone and onto the old one.

Re: Is it safe to sell my new cell phone. I dont like it
You should not have a problem at all - you see when the other person uses the phone they will use their sim card and so it will track to them I would make sure you delete any information you put on the phone .
