I'm new to the whole "unlocked phone" thing. But in doing research on line, I finally figured out what it means. What I can't find is an answer to this question, can you use an unlocked smart phone, such as an Iphone, or blackberry, with your At&T go phone sim? I buy unlimited monthly plans that include data, airtime and text for 60.00 a month. Will this work. This pantech is basically a faux blackberry right? I want a better phone but am not impressed with the choices AT&T have for prepaid options.

Many thanks in advance for your help on this matter!

If AT&T recognizes the phone you are using on a GoPhone account is a smartphone, the unlimited data will not work. A cellular data connection will not work at all unless you purchase one of the data packages. A nonsmartphone will work with the unlimited data.

The term "unlocked phone" is meaningless to the carrrier. Simply unlocking a phone will not change how the carrier handles that phone. The correct term is "unbranded phone." An unbranded phone is one which the carrier never offered on its network. Unbranded smartphones may or may not be recognized as such by the carrier. It is a trial and error process. A smartphone which is unrecognized today might be recognized tomorrow.

Often unlocked phones won't work for data on the AT&T network because the browser settings on the phone that is unlocked are for a seperate carrier. If you want to use it for data however you can obtain browser settings for a similar phone and attempt to enter them in your unlocked device by going to AT&T's site, to wireless support, to the learning centre and entering something like the Pantech Link. Click on internet, then browser settings and you will have the browser settings that need to be programmed into the unlocked phone.
Only the mobile browser will work though so you will get the same data functionality that you would from a non-smartphone.
