Does anyone have any ideas, or similar experience will the following.

Recently, I purchased a Wilson Dual Band DB819 Cell phone antenna, and an Antenna Adapter 359909 for use with my Verizon Audiovox 8900.

This Antenna Adapter was advertised as being compatible with the Audiovox 8900 phone.

When I plugged the new antenna and adapter into the phone, everything appeared to work perfectly. Received signal levels were significantly higher than with the phone's built in antenna.

However, when I unplugged the adapter/antenna, so that I could use the phone on its own, the received signal was almost none existent, and the phone became unusable.

Verizon confirmed the receive signal strength problem, and replaced the phone under warranty. Thinking that it must have been a phone problem, I reconnected the adapter and antenna. To my horror, I discovered that the same thing had happened to the new phone, after I unplugged the adapter.

I have been able to convince Verizon to replace the phone for a second time, but they were not willing to help resolve the problem, because they did not sell me the adapter or antenna.

I cannot understand why the adapter/antenna combination would damage the phones ability to receive signals from its internal antenna, especially when there does not appear to be any mechanical mismatch, and the antenna gives good signal strength improvement when it is plugged into the phone.

It's almost as if the internal antenna gets disconnected from the phone, when the external one is plugged in, and never gets re-connected.

    Thanks.

    antenna kills phones

i just had the same problem with the "ARC freedom antenna". it messed mine and my wife's cell phones up in a matter of seconds (both LG VX3200, Verizon Wireless). both those phones don't have any reception anymore once you unplug the external antenna. it's completely ridiculous.

    thanks.

does external antenna damage cell phones?

I have a motorola v300. Since t-mobile sucks, I had to purchase an external antenna which plugs in the phone, right in the slot behind the regular antenna on the phone.
Now I dont have decent signal without the external antenna. Does anyone know whether it is possible that the phone is damaged because of the use of external antenna? I'll really appreciate the help.

In case that link happens to go bad or go away for that matter, here is all you need to know:

What I found to work is to: Plug the antenna back in, then pull it straight out. Do not wiggle it or work it side to side. PULL STRAIGHT OUT IN ONE MOTION.

It seems like there is a clip or something inside that just does not get release when you gently pull out the antenna.

    Problem solved!!!

    still same problem

I tried to unplug the antenna real fast and I still do not have signal without the external antenna. I have a motorola v300. The plug is really simple, it has one central pin which enters a tiny little slot behind the built-in antenna. Any suggestions? I am desperate at this point. This is the second phone I am having problem with.

I think I found the solution. I opened the phone to find an electronic device under the antenna port connector that appears to the routes the RF to the antenna or to the external port. I tried removing the antenna quickly in one motion with no results. I tried the same during phone power down and then again when the phone was off. When I repowered the phone, the internal antenna started working again.

If you enter ##2773 then the off button, the phones goes into test mode and you can actually see the Rx signal into the phone.
