My phone died on me and when I went to plug it into the charger, it would look like it was going to turn on, but then the screen would go black. When it flashes on, the screen says DIVIDE BY ZERO and then goes black again. How do I fix this?

    That's a great Pet Shop Boys song....sorry

It sounds as if there's a error with the EFS filesystem, and it might require the firmware be reflashed. I once had a similar problem caused by a bad charger, and the phone had to be returned. I got the feeling the charger caused a surge or something, and screwed up the EFS. You'd probably have the easiest time returning it.

    Thanks

Yeah, I want a new one anyway. This one's made it through everything short of direct flame. Is it so damaged that they wouldn't be able to transfer my ringtones and stuff to a new phone?

I doubt Verizon would transfer all that if it's really bad off. If the phone would recognize being connected to a PC via a data cable when using a program like CUPST, then it might be accessible for a flash, or a backup. However, I have doubts if the phone is cycling like that.
