    Why Are Mobile Phones Recycled?

Is it because the phones are then used in a 3rd world country? Are
there reuseable parts? Are there dangerous components?

Should I recycle accessories like chargers etc?

    Thanx 4 looking.

    Again, nope:

Many of those arent even 'toxic' and get used in every

No surprise that you're actually stupid enough to buy it tho.

Why would the AMTA lie about their recycling program?
Please cite a source that says it's not true. Bet you cant.

I am about to cite several more that say it is true.

    >> 'These toxic ingredients include metals and chemicals such as arsenic,
    >> antimony, beryllium, cadmium, copper, lead, nickel, zinc and flame
    >> retardant."

    >

    1. Zinc is toxic in high doses, and not just to humans:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc
    2. Nikel has a maximum safe exposure limit because - you guessed it - it's
    toxic in large doses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel
    3. Same for Copper: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper

Although you conveniently didnt mention the others, you will never guess
what the news flash is... they are toxic as well:

Beryllium: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beryllium - note the 1st line where
    it says "highly toxic".
Cadmium: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadmium - note the whole 'Precautions'
    section.

There are too many types of flame retatdant to list here. Not that it
matters, the fact mobiles have toxic substances has been comprehensively
    proven.

    > No surprise that you're actually stupid enough to buy it tho.

No surprise that you are stupid enough to go on with your **** with no
    proof.

    1. They still add to it. One more thing that is recycled is one less thing
    in landfill.
    2. The number of old mobiles out there is not trivial, esp as they get
    thrown out over time

Stop clutching at straws, you have been comprehensively proven wrong on all
    points.

    Oops, forgot a couple:

    arsenic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenic - 1st line "notoriously
    poisonous"

antimony: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimony - "Antimony and many of its
compounds are toxic. Clinically, antimony poisoning is very similar to
    arsenic poisoning"

lead: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead - about 20 places in there talk
    about toxicity.

Old CRT tubes in monitors and TVs are a MUCH

Actually it does - go and read it again. It even goes as far as admitting
that not ALL plastics can be recycled and discloses what happens to same.
Just shows that they are being honest about it.

    substance is toxic.
    2. Shame about the millions of phones (billions worldwide?) out there that
will eventually end up in landfill. They each contribute a small amount to
    the total levels over time.

I have cited several places that say they do, including some of the other
substances that also act as flame retardants.

    Already covered this.

I have cited ****loads of stuff to back my claims. You have cited jack ****.

    Wrong.

It's fact and even you will not try and say otherwise to this point.

Please cite something to back that up. Bet you cant.
Regardless, as I have said already, they will add to overall levels over
time - common sense (which you seem to lack) says that.

Wrong. You have yet to provide any proof of your points...

    You would say that

You havent provided a shred of evidence that
they actually do what they CLAIM to be doing.

    YOU made the claim.

YOU get to do the citing.

The bit you quoted clearly didnt, liar.

It actually shows that the original claim is just plain wrong.

Again, no you didnt. You posted nothing that shows
that THE AMOUNTS USED IN MOBILE PHONES
ARE TOXIC AT ALL WHEN DUMPED IN LANDFILL.

    > You made a claim that it's BS,

I proved your original claim is pure bull****.

    YOU made the claim.

YOU get to do the citing.

    THATS how it works.

Yep, you clearly did with mobile phones in landfills.

None of the rest of your pathological lying worth

Before I get torn apart by those "who know", I'll state what I do know
    of phone recycling.

Back some time ago, some old "recycled" phones ended up in Kiribati
along with some old analogue cells. This was part of an Australian
Government program helping the country set up it's communications
company TKSL. I do believe the old gear has been retired now.

Not sure if phones are reused any more.

A friend of mine collects scrap metal and gets money for scrap PCBs,
last time he was paid around $700 for a small trailer load of scrap!

There are small amounts of toxic material in electronics and more so the
batteries, but not enough to make any great impact. Some countries now
have compulsory recycling, where the manufacturer must recycle unwanted
    products returned by the consumer.
