Hi all,
Just received the following SMS:
"Congrats!! U get semi-daily pics 5AUD. Support: 1300767306 (mon-fr,
10am-5pm). 2 unsub SMS STOP 2 19900119"
If I go into message details, then the number is listed is: 19900119.
Did anyone else get one of these? I havent sent any sms's to this number,
and certainly didnt subscribe to anything. No one else has touched my phone
either.
To me it seems like a scam, but what is the possibility that someone
subscribes my mobile number to some shonky website that does all this..and
then I get charged for it?
I read similar things on whrilpool forums about people being charged for
getting similar types of SMS.
Thoughts??

Re: Weird SMS
scam (or possibly if you did not subscribe) premium number
stuff
do a quick search on the support number,
check your bill asap and be prepared to complain loudly to
your provider and possibly the TIO

Re: Weird SMS
Unfortunatly there's not much you provider can do as the content is
from a third party provider. You can provide feedback to your provider
but understand they are not directly responsible for the charges, they
are purely passed on.
The short dial you provide is for a company called SOLMOBILE. Their
customer service number is 1300767306. Any complaints, you need to
speak with them, if they in fact have a live operator. Some just
provide a call back service.
I recommend you sms the word STOP to that shortdial number and you
should receive a un-subscribe sms to confirm you have been de-activated
from the subscription.

They're (SOLMOBILE) completely useless.. they "take a message" and NEVER
return your call.

I'd recommend instead asking your carrier to block SMSs to and from
that number. Why should the OP have to pay $2 (or whatever) to ensure
he's not subscribed? If it is a scam, or a badly secured site that
doesn't check the person submitting a form is the owner of the phone,
then sending STOP may not actually do much.

Looks like I've been hit up for $20 by the parasites on my Optus bill this
time around. Although Optus are much less competent (or much more
incompetent, depends on the way you look at it) than Telstra, they just list
X units @$1.81 with no other details.
Calling up all they can give me is "ahh yes, you were billed so many times
by 199 1234" - those numbers mean SFA to me. These companies must love
hiding behind the anonymity of meaningless numbers.
Anyway, got the usual patronising "naughty child, but I'll give you a
goodwill credit just this once" speech by the Optus (Business) rep, who
seemed to blame me for this rubbish. And I blocked premium SMS, as I suggest
*everyone* on this newsgroup now do.

I encountered a similar "tone" when I asked why a back-2-base number -
which is a mobile number redirected to a landline - was charged for a
premium SMS. He didn't seem to care when I explained that it was
*impossible* to send or receive an SMS via that number, because there
is no mobile phone (or SIM) associated with it.
I guess the goodwill thing is a standard script response.

What a load of rubbish. If I know your mobile number for that SIM, I can
certainly have it be sent some premium SMS

No, its a standard interpretation of "you are a dumb customer who is wrong,
but you should get off the phone as I have more important customers to
service. Those that are on more than your $4.95 plan
