    Be aware.
Once it's done, your old CMDA handset is blocked from reconnecting to
    the network.
You can only migrate your number back to CDMA under extenuating
circumstances. Say, if there is a serious coverage issue.
Telstra are offering generous incentives to CDMA customers to migrate
    now.

The CDMA international roaming is pathetic. The 3G roaming is must better

The samsung and LG models are getting good raves. The ZTE and JasJam
haven't been as successful as some people hoped for.

JasJam not as successful as some people hoped for?? What do you base
    this on?

Telstra CDMA international roaming works in:-
    Telecom New Zealand
    China Unicom
    Hutchison Hong Kong
    Pelephone Israel
    Reliance India
    SKT Korea
    KDDI Japan
    Mobile8 Indonesia
    Sprint USA
    Verizon USA
    CAT Thailand
    APBW Taiwan.

Tell us why CDMA international roaming is pathetic?

GSM roaming leaves it for dead.

It's not pathetic in the area I care about: coverage in a select few
    countries.

eg, in NZ I'm more likely to get Telecom CDMA reception in those hard to
reach places than I am Vodafone GSM. Vodafone NZ 3G? Not a chance - it's
    only in the big cities.

Similarly, in the Canadian Rockies Telus' CDMA coverage has always been
much better than over Roger's GSM: a) more BSs, b) CDMA not GSM, c)
    800MHz not 1900MHz. Again, what 3G?

Just because there are far more GSM networks around the world and far
more GSM coverage around the world, doens't mean CDMA roaming isn't
useful in a number of key places I spend time.

Hence it's not "pathetic" for me.

I'm waiting until a decent dual-band UMTS handset so I can make use of
the extra 1900/2100MHz 3G capacity/coverage in the city and 1900/2100MHz
3G raoming overseas... Preferably a Nokia.

You have always been, and always will be, completely and utterly
irrelevant. Where you might or might not spend time in spades.

    > Hence it's not "pathetic" for me.

    See above.

Yet Telstra are offering a guarantee that if you are not happy with
the reception/reception is not as good in the area as CDMA they will
promptly put your service back to CDMA. I'm going to give them a run
for their money shortly,if the units hold up to what they can
alledgedly do, then I will keep them. I had one clown tell me that
because they use HSDPA, the signal can go through mountains for hilly
areas like where we are living. I will be using that statement if they
    don't work .

Biggest thing I'm unimpressed with is the lack of a full car kit, full
as in has a charging/holding cradle with an antenna connector,
    something like a Nokia CK7W + crade + AXF15s. Their coverage map
states our area (exception a few small spots) has car antenna coverage
only, yet they won't offer the car antenna.

I've also been told that there is still a lot of reception problems in
    Murrurundi/Scone area as well.

Yeah, I'd noticed that contradiction too. The maps show "phone with
external car antenna coverage only" (paraphrased) yet none of the
handsets on offer can be fitted with a car kit with external antenna?

It gets more interesting. Every Telstra rep I've spoken with, both
call center and Telstra shop has said there is no fully wired kit with
antenna connector. Yet when I was in Retravision today, they said
there has been one released for the LG TU500 and would be in stock
    sometime next week.

So I took the plunge today, migrated (for a test at least) and should
expect my "full" car kit next week. Shall see just how full it is as
to if I keep the phone or not. So far the reception around here has
been equal to CDMA, but by no means better as Telstra advertise.
