Find out if the service has a contract attached to it.
If it has a contract such as a service or phone plan, find out how much
it will cost you to break it.
Don't say afterwards when you get the bill, that you were not informed
of the Early Termination Charge (ETC) - when you sign the request in
the store, it's on the understanding that you are aware of any
termination charges involved and are willing to accepts those charges.
If you don't know what that means, ask!
Even when you sign to port your number to a new carrier, there's
usually a clause about accepting ETCs from the losing carrier.
Don't make major changes to your service thinking everything will be
okay if you plead ignorance to the fees and charges.

What is the relevance of this post?
Dont port ANY service (landline or mobile) to ANYONE, without knowing what
contract you are on.

You'd be surprised that a lot of people port out without checking for
ETCs prior and then come whinging to telstra about not being informed
of the ETC when the final bill arrives. Some have been known to claim
that the gaining carrier will cop the full ETCs if they move across,
which is very rare.

This is how MNP works. Not restricted to porting-away from Telstra. Simple
contract law. Not an issue.Like it or lump it. Tough titties.

Some of them do, depending on the offer, but thats for the gaining carrier
to pay onto the account, not a Telstra issue
