Are there any plans that don't have a monthly fee (or forced credit
expiry) that also allow GPRS? I will be using it for a car tracking
system so the overall data usage will be low, and voice calls are
likely to be zero.
I know there's a few options for voice calls but as above I am
interested in GPRS capabilities only.
Thanks in advance

Re: PAYG with reasonable pricing for GPRS
Ok, after a lot of searching I've come up with this...
Vodafone have dedicated data only bundles, which is exactly what I'm
after:
http://www.vodafone.com.au/business/...&ss=databundle
Telstra has a data pack that needs to be attached to an existing voice
plan, unless you're paying $49+ per month for your data pack. PAYG
doesn't mention this requirement but somehow I don't think they'd allow
someone to pay $1 a month for a single session that transfers 50k.
http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/bus...anspricing.htm
(not sure if this is a NextG only product)
Optus... I'm still trying to figure them out. There are references to
"data" and "GPRS" but I can't find any actual pricing for them.
Perhaps a reseller has a better deal (or at least more clear pricing!)

Yep, there still are a few of those.

Most if not all of the PAYG with no monthly fee do GPRS fine.

You dont really need no voice capability, just dont bother to use it.

The detail is in their SFA.

Yeah, southerncross mobile is one obvious one there.

Unison too http://www.unisonmobile.com.au/home.jsp

Anyone can pay for GPRS PAYG

Interesting reply! I think you're trying to say that anyone with a
standard mobile account can use PAYG data. I'm aware of that, but I
would prefer to avoid having to pay a fixed monthly amount for a voice
account when I'll be using it for a small amount of data only. The SIM
will not be going into a mobile phone.

Hmm on second read perhaps you're talking about Telstra only. I can get
a PAYG data account with no fixed monthly minimum fee?

OK, so basically you after something for nothing? A working SIM, where you
might make 50c of data sessions a month?
Good luck

As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, Southern Cross and Unison do
exactly that. So it appears he does in fact have good luck.

Aha, so you were really saying "you should be able to afford it"
Which other consumables or services in your life are you forced to pay
a minimum monthly fee for?

By 'PAYG', do you mean prepay? Unfortunately I don't think you'll be
able to use Vodafone's data bundle for your GPRS purposes (wireless
internet?) if you're on prepay. Those data bundles are 'on account'
only.
"Prepay customers will be able to use WAP, PXT™ and Vodafone Live
services [...] However, Prepay customers will not be able to connect to
GPRS Plans and use the other "regular" GPRS services such as described
above."
http://www.vodafone.com.au/rep/servi...ta&ss=mbl_gprs
Further, you mention that you don't want a monthly fee - even if you do
choose one of these (postpaid) Vodafone data bundles, they *all* come
with a monthly fee. If you're happy with postpaid and won't use it
much, the $2.95 option isn't too bad.

Telstra Pre-Paid Plus charges 55c per 25kB block. The prohibitive cost
is keeping your service active - you need to recharge $30 every 2
months.

Continuing with the assumption that you're after a pre-paid offer...
Optus's 'Every Now and Then' pre-paid option looks like the Optus offer
that comes closest to meeting your needs. Credit lasts 6 months. Data
charges aren't particularly cheap - 22c per 40kB block.

Nope, the exact opposite of prepaid, pay as you go.

Which is what PAYG is.

Re: PAYG with reasonable pricing for GPRS
www.isim.com.au might suit you.
OK, I know it's prepaid but it is also cheap - $10 for six months access.
If data usage is very low, this might suit you. It uses the Optus GPRS
network.
If widespread coverage is important to you, avoid Vodafone.
