    Hi all.

Ive been a customer with B/Optus for probably 10 years, always upgrading and
going on plans with new phones, paying $60 pm etc.

A couple of months ago, my contract once again expired, though this time i
decided to keep my L7 (crap phone, but slim and sexy) and go onto the $29
month to month cap with $120 calls.

Do you think if I rang B and suggested I was to leave unless I got a new
phone (WITHOUT a contract) they would give me one. Something like "3 are
offering me a phone without a 24 month contract on a similar plan - I would
like to stay with you, but I will not go onto a contract and I want the same
    plan month to month."

I know its a loyalty bonus and simply my word that Ill stay on, but in these
days of customer retention - will I get a phone? Even if its not a high end
    one?

    <SNIP>

That 3 offer has you by the balls, the phone is locked to them and they
know you can't take it with you to another carrier. Also if you look a
the 3 deal, you might not be locked into a a contract with them but you
will still have to make payments on the handset until it is paid for!

All the carriers are tight arses and will rip you off one way or another.

So you dont think a threat to leave would be met with a new phone - even a
    cheap one?

(I insist on not going on a contract though)

B have been known to give a customer, a free basic phone no obligations
(Nokia 6610i or similar) if you speak nicely to their retention team
and you have been with them for at least 2 years. Just alude to the
fact that you have been looking around

Don't try and use offers to stay, that just arn't true though, (they
may ask you to direct them to that advertised specific offer to match
it), as most providers are aware of their oppossitions offers.

Hey you guys - I didnt get a phone.

But the chick I spoke with was a miserable mole.

I might ring back and try for a supervisor - by the way, the phones they
offered me on the same plan with a 24 month contract go for ebay for
    100-150.

They could have given me one!

Probably because you are a povvo customer who thinks a $29 cap is a "high
    end plan"

You want them to source you a 2nd hand phone off ebay, and sell it to you on
    a 24 mth contract?

You've got some weird ideas ;-)
