    Hi,
I've got an old Nokia 3210. Now, long time ago I stuck a phone security
number into the thing, and now cannot remember what that number is.
Normally, it's not a problem as the phone is useable without it. But I'd
upgraded, wanted to stick a Telstra PrePaid sim in it, and give it to my
ex, who being a pensioner, can't afford one of his own. He's also very sick
and may need it for emergencies.

Trouble is, once I insert the Telstra sim, up pops the security code
request. The setting is in phone memory, not the sim memory, so is there
any way I can reset all the phone mem settings to the original default?

The manual says I can, but to do that requires the same security code I
can't remember!! Catch 22. Any way around that?

There are (at least) two different security codes, PIN and PUK
(PIN Unlock Code). If you get the PIN wrong three times in
succession or forget it, only use of the PUK can save you.
Telstra will have a record of the PUK (it's SIM dependant).

And if you get the PUK wrong 9 times, the card disables itself rendering
    it useless.

She's talking about the 5-digit security code.

Kate, take it to a repair centre. About $30 to zap it.

A Chinese dealership might be able to do it cheaper

Much thanks, John, you are right, that's the code I'm talking about. Now to
try and find a Chinese dealership in Ipswich, which seems singularly
    lacking in a Chinese community.

Should be no big deal to travel into Brisbane City and check out E&E
Electronics in Elizabeth St., the City, which is a Chinese dealership.
However, I would recommend that you travel further to The Fone Junkie
in Woollangabba, down Stanley Street, from where they have the cricket.
Cheap stuff, indeed, from the Chinese E&E place (probably try to sell
you a dirt-cheap phone), but stuff I bought interferes with all the
appliances at home, so I only go to the Fone Junkie now -- no
Mongoloids, only Caucasians! Check phone book, of course.

Is that the one that used to be in the Valley?

Much thanks for the info. Hmmm costing it all out, and factoring in that the
3210s display is failing, might be a tad cheaper to just buy a nice 2nd
hand cheapie from Crime Converters, and forget the 3210 except as a spare
backup! Just hope they got another $50 Nokia. :-)

Have you tried changing the charset you're posting in from
    iso-8859-1 to iso-8859-5 (KNode / Settings / Configure KNode /
Posting News / Technical / Charset)?
