"THE Australian arm of Singapore Telecommunications, Optus, suffered a 15
per cent drop in net profit for the third quarter as customers hung up on
    fixed lines.
While operating revenue for Optus firmed 31 per cent, net profit fell 15 per
cent to $135 million compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous
    year..."

Well what can I say, thank you Australia.

Revenue usually means squat. Profit fell.

Wrong, its a pretty viable measure of use of their services.

    > Profit fell.

Because their costs increased, most obviously with their
adsl rollout and the extensive enhancement of their mobile
network. Both of which may well take some time to deliver
enough increased revenue to pay for them.

If the revenue is up 31%, the customer satisfaction must be pretty decent.

Bet Telstra is seeing similar results with their CDMA/NextG operation too,
it just isnt visible because its such a small part of their total operation.

Indeed. And that's why me and the stock exchange go together as well as
    humanity and John Howard :-)

Fantastic to hear you're confirming you hate Australia then given that's
a direct reduction in customers utilising Telstra fixed lines.

    Sorry, you read wrong.

OPTUSES customers are hanging up on fixed lines. That could be on their HFC
net or it could be on Telstra's PSTN lines.

Whether TELSTRA's customers are hanging up on fixed lines is a whole nuther
    kettle of fish.

And what counts is REVENUE. Even if you drop your SIOs, if you increase
    REVENUE, it doesn't matter.

    2 x $10 is the same as 1 x $20.
