Broadband Decision

Senator Helen Coonan - Minister for Communications
Two years to roll out all of your new broadband two tier plan? That's
absolute rubbish and you know it! You must think that there are a lot of
dumb people out here. This ridiculous estimate will blow out dramatically as
soon as the election is over.
And as for saddling country people with completely untried WiMax wireless
technology - shame on you. You have just abandoned a key constituency - the
entire country population of Australia. Radio transmission is never as good
as fixed line and you know it. Just think of the difference in call quality
between fixed line and mobile. Country people will end up with a
considerably slower second rate service which will be affected by a number
of variables including the weather, while city people will travel first
class on high speed fibre! Why don't you just come out and say that you
don't care about the speed and quality of service for country people's
internet? I guess that honesty simply doesn't serve your political agenda,
particularly with an election coming on, huh?
The Optus proposal will provide broadband to 426 country exchanges whereas
the Telstra plan was going to reach over 1500 exchanges! So how come you
didn't mention that? And as you know, Optus is 100% owned by the Singaporean
government, so you have just given a foreign govt a huge financial leg up.
Duh!
It's hard to see how you could have stuffed this up more even if you tried
and the tragedy is that it took the Govt of which you are a member, 11 years
to do it and then only because the Rudd Federal Opposition actually forced
you to make a decision.
Brilliant work Senator! I hope you enjoy being in Opposition come December.

You know if you live in the country you should expect to be a little isolated
from the rest of the planet.
That's why most people go to live in the country after all, to get away from us
loud city types.
So why do you want to go and connect them all up just like they're living in the
city?

Yeah , I reckon that little Johnny Howard's broadband proposal is just
outright crap and just a patch up job for the election just to keep the
voters happy.
( will it be a "core" or "non core" promise ? )
As Kevin Rudd says , it will be a TWO TIER system in and the country people
will get the rough end of the pineapple jammed right up their arse.
Using wireless access for country users in going to be crap , it will be
patchy and at reduced speeds particularly if there are hills and mountain
ranges between the user and the exchange , not to mention anything about
congestion by users.
In short they would have to set up line of sight towers just like for mobile
phone towers all over the place.
And another thing that really sucks is that the Liberal Gov flogged off
Telstra for a big profit and now they are going to be paying a foreign owned
company , Optus to implement this crap broadband system at the taxpayers
expense .
Also little Johnny Howard should get that fat ugly ***** Helen Coonan to
stop dribbling crap about technology she knows nothing about , it was quit
obvious on TV the other night that she knows stuff all about the technology
she is trying to flog to the aust people.
Hopeful all these arsehole Liberals will be unemployed by Christmas 2007.

OFDM helps minimise the need for that. It won't get around it completely,
but does reduce the effect of physical obstacles.

Mindless silly stuff.

Pity they aint proposing JUST radio tranmission, fool.

Completely irrelevant to broadband, fool.

Pig ignorant fantasy. Mobile phones dont get that result.
And pity about the adsl2+ that will also be used too.

Not a ****ing clue, as always. The telstra plan doesnt have ANY

And your reply was better? By the way, let the RodBot programmers know
that the first word should have been saved as "Can't". Perhaps there's
an unmatched delimiter in a table in the program? Always difficult
