I have a Nokia 6120 classic (Optus), I have a Telstra Next G SIM in it, how
can I tell if I am picking up the Next G signal as against just the 3G
    signal.

If you goto a regional area then it is definitely picking up the 850
    UMTS service.

Considering it switches seamlessly between both bands, even mid call,
depending on network conditions it may be difficult.
