Not all of them are.
What I found strange was that pagers were popular ten years ago. People would
have both a pager and a mobile. I used to ask them what the point of that was.
So they could page me to get them to call them. Would not it be simpler, easier
and cheaper to simply get them to call you on the mobile, I asked?
Perhaps messaging over there is expensive. Who knows. It may be a cultural
thing. For example, in the doctor's waiting room the other day two teenager
girls came in, separately. Sat down and immediately out came the phones and the
texting started. The keypress beeps and alerts for incoming msgs was ****ing
annoying to say the least.
Perhaps all of their checkout chick wages go on supporting the phone service and
they rely on their boyfriends to keep them in other expenses or their parents,
perhaps.

Yep.

Yeah, just another different way the various systems evolved, like with
free local calls and mobile calls costing the called party to receive.

Why, were you?
Actually, it was the dentist's. My wife was getting dental work done and I was
waiting for her. Not that I really need to explain that to you, do I?

bull****. people do it all the time. heaps of people end their contracts
early with little penalty and would want the phone unlocked

Phones dont tend to last 2 years. b/w 18 and 24 months, many people end
their contract early to take up a new phone. most providers penalties are
pro-rata'ed and reasonable. some dont charge a penalty if you end in the
last 2 motnhs

You'd have to ask Apple that

Its because they charge for incoming calls, so you were better off getting a
page and ringing someone back
Some providers now bundle the incoming call minutes into the general minutes
bundled
They charge for incoming calls as they do not have seperate number ranges
for mobiles

It has to do with being able to use a phone that is unlocked with a pre-paid SIM
when overseas. Saves on exhorbitant international roaming charges.
That's the relevance.
