If it's like my Motorola it has a standard mini-usb connector, so I would
expect an adaptor like this first Google result should suffice.

although I personally use bluetooth earphones.

That fitting isn't the same as what's on my phone. Mine is a thinner plug than
the standard mini-USB connector. And what you showed is about all I can find,
    too.

Bluetooth may be the way to go, perhaps. But I already have a set of good
    earbuds that I can't use.

I guess it's a micro USB connector then.

If the V9's receptacle is the same as a V6, you can get the pigtail you want
from Allphones. I bought 5 pigtails there, in case I lose them. $5 each.
One is in my car (I have it plugged into an FM transmitter so I can listen
to MP3s and internet audio/video on the car radio), another is in my back
pack and a third is in the house.

Nope, it's the new micro-USB connector

That link only talks about a new standard. I can't find any links with photos of
    the connector.

Anyway, I looked at a V6 the other day. It has a small USB connector which is
the same as what my PDA uses and what my Garmin GPS also uses. However, the V9's
connector is "flatter" or thinner, I s'pose you could say. In other words it
ain't as chunky as the V6's connector.

Additionally, I have a Kodak digital camera whose USB connector is different
again. It's more of a square profile with two bevelled edges on one side.

    Yep, its a micro-USB

Yeah, there's more variation with cameras.
