Missus tried to video call our daughter. She's on Optus 3G, daughter is with 3
Mobile. Missus has the N95i, daughter Motorola V3x. The message that she kept
getting was "the other network or phone does not support video calling".

    Eh?

So we tried calling my phone, a Motorola V9 on NextG. Same message.

I then tried calling her. The phone gave a beep every coupla seconds. Then it
returned a message "video call failed" and gave me options to voice call, email
    or SMS her.

I tried it to my daughter's phone. Same result.

Anyone got any idea as to why this may be occuring?

Either you dont have video calling on your service, or their network has a
    fault

We should. It's worked in the past.

Thing is, 3, NextG and Optus 3G all failed in our attempts at video calling.

I shall try again later today. Maybe it was a network glitch or something.
