Short question re Symbian OS on many Nokia phones now - does downloaded
software (say a email application purchased over the web) overwrite the
default application, or are both available, or only one?

Could there also be potential software conflicts causing the device to
    crash?

Err... "Yes" as it overwrites the native application, or "Yes" as in it
causes conflicts, or "Yes" as in both?

Based on experience with my Nokia 6110:

No it doesn't - The original software is in ROM and can't be
overwritten. It's still there to use

Any software can cause the phone to crash. Do a backup first before
installing then you can do a firmware reset if there is a problem.
