I had a question about the Unlimited wap feature for either bell or solo mobile. I haven't really gotten a straight answer but does it cost money to download a picture or ringtone from a site such as t1mmys?

One bell employee said 50 cents per picture, while another employee said 5 cents per kb per file.

Normally, "Unlimited Mobile Browser" is a $5 a month fee. Right now with a lot of plans, Bell is adding it in for no cost. However, downloading screen savers, ring tones, sending pictures or video, is an "on-top" charge. Generally screen savers and ring tones run from $2.00 to $3.00 each. Sending a picture message will cost you $0.50 per use (unlimited picture messaging cost $5 a month).

As far as I know, you can't download screen savers and ring tones for free. When you try to download them, a notification will come up giving you the price. It won't continue until you accept the charge by pressing the OK button. After that, a final confirmation will ask you again if you are accepting the fee to download the ring tone / screen saver. Once again, you must accept before it will download to you.

Browse as much as you want. All the phones have a "web browser" in them. Meaning, you can point your phone to google.ca or hotmail.com and check your e-mail.

Spend 10 hours browsing and it won't cost you a penny more.

The Treo comes with a web browser already, right out of the box. It's the icon that says "Web" and has the globe with the swirl around it. And yes, Unlimited Mobile Browser covers this. That's what UMB is for

    Thanks for the response.

When I hit 'Web', it asks me if i would like to "connect to the internet". When I select "yes", it asks me for a password (w/ the username being: [email protected]).

I assumed that this was to keep track of my 'data' (email, non-WAP browsing, non-Bell WAP browsing, etc...) and not what bell describes as 'Unlimited Mobile Browsing'.

So! I am assuming that if I get this 'password', it will let me browse Bell's WAP? (http://profiler2.bellmobility.ca/atlas/default.asp#MAIN or something like that).

On my Treo 650 it only asks that when I open VersaMail, which you need to pay for a data bundle with Bell if you want to use VersaMail. Ummmmm, without seeing the Treo physically I can't really say what's going on, I'd suggest going to Bell World store and asking them to show you.

I use Bell with my Samsung A680 and unlimited WAP. I can download tones for free using Polyphonic Wizard V4 and www.tapwap.com. It allows you to put any MIDI file onto your phone.

Oh, one thing to note, there are 2 available web browsers for the Treo. If you use the one with the address bar and the larger viewable screen, then it's the 1X data browser.

I assume you are talking about the 650?

I seem to only have one on my 600. Was thinking about trying jBrowser, and see what happens.

Yes, 650. If you use the one that originally is loaded into the Treo from Palm, it's considered 1X data usage. There's some other browser apparently that is more limited, but covered under $5 UMB. I have yet to find it. And since I don't live in a 1X service area, makes it even harder
