According to my help desk, you cannot.

The reason is because Telus' Mike network is running on a similar basis as the USA's Nextel network, which using a network frequency and technology known as iDen. How iDen works, I honestly have no idea, as it's a network that isn't very popular.

The 10-4 services runs over the 1X and EV-DO network from Bell. Basically, it's a voice over IP, or voice over internet. So you're basically logging onto the wireless with your cell phone, and making a connection to another wireless web phone, and talking over that "on-line" connection. That's how the 10-4 service works.

You should probably look into that a little further

? Not here in Canada. Perhaps in the USA it's popular. Oh, wait a minute, let me find my Spring 2006 version of USA Cell Phone Handbook. Alright, pahe 021, according to MMETRICS surveys, Cingular has 29% of the US's cell phone subscriptions. Verizon has 23.6%. Sprint has 21%. T-Mobile has 8.3%. And all the others combined have 18.1%.

So how do you figure that the Nextel network is so popular ?

Maybe not that popular here in Canada but you didn't say "Mike" you said "iden"
Much like Telus own Mike, Sprint now owns Nextel so Sprint's number are for both CDMA + iDEN

Nextel alone has 17million subscribers in the US so I'd say there's plenty of iDEN subscribers when you consider that there's also SouthernLinc, Boost, and Mike iDEN networks out there.

Though there is no way to use the 10-4 feature between the two networks, it is something that they are working on....

Unfortunately, like everything else in the cellular communication industry, it's on the 5 and 10 year plan.....Which is said to be done in 5, but takes 10.
Thank you very much sir....As my thanks...A Twoonie...

Ahhhh, I see, didn't know Sprint bought out Nextel. Interesting that the iDen network is popular down there, yet very un-popular up here.

This might something to do with it

It can only be popular where there's coverage... but in those areas, it kicks all kinds of ass! I get usually 3-4 bars (5 being full signal) in my basement
