Yes indeed, all OBEX profiles have been disabled. The reason ? I'd assume it's because Bell wants people to use it's 1X or EV-DO service.

Re: the moto razor on bell: question

I'm just taking a wild stab in the dark here, but if I had to guess at why a service provider would disable a bluetooth feature, I could come up with two reasons. As Abom said, they want you to spend money by transferring files through their data services OR if you are one of those undying optimists as I often try to be, you could assume maybe they're looking out for your phone's well-being. After all, people who walk around with their bluetooth enabled all the time sometimes pick up unwanted things from other phones nearby (like viruses!)

Aside from the threat of viruses or the avarice of corporate fat-cats, I can't think of any other reason why they would do such a thing. That sure is annoying, but I think if you search google for something called "seem edit" you can learn how to re-enable your bluetooth. Use seem-edit at your own risk, I don't personally know anything about it, but I heard you'll mess up your phone if you make a mistake.

I've screwed up a Nokia 3250's programming once by trying to edit some things. It wasn't a pretty sight at all.

And yes, the service provider is trying to make money by "forcing" you to use the wireless data service provided by them. Yes, a lot of people will see this as "being ripped off" and such, but it does have it's benefits. Look at everyone who was using the 1X service, it became that popular that 1X EV-DO made it worthwhile for Bell Mobility to invest into. Not to mention that the revenue from some of the 1X service went into implementing 1X EV-DO. So even though one might think the $2 ring tone is a rip off when you can get it for free, at least some of the money goes back into the network you depend on.
