Hi all,
I will be in Canada on a 3 week vacation in December. I'd like to use my European (unlocked) iPhone 3G during that time. It's just for occasional calls, so I don't need anything like 1000 minutes, free incoming, and so on. All I'm looking for is a cheap way to get a Canadian sim card, put it into my phone and use it for occasional web surfing and a short call from time to time.

From what I found out while researching the Web this is not that easy, apparently most Canadian providers absolutely want to sell you a phone, even for prepaid. Of course I cannot get postpaid, as I'm not a Canadian resident.

The only possibility I have found so far is Fido: $19 for the prepaid plan plus $7/week for data access, plus $10 for the sim card (weird that they charge for that). Including tax that makes something like $56, which is more than double what I would pay for a similar solution in Europe. I know using cellphones in Canada is more expensive, but I can't believe there is nothing cheaper than that.

Doesn't Bell offer something similar? When I was living in Canada 5 years ago, I couldn't use European phones with Bell (only Fido and Rogers), but apparently now it's possible, at least I see Telus/Bell advertising the iPhone.
Can you guys recommend any provider (preferably low-cost) where I can just get a sim card and use it in my iPhone? The only condition is that Montreal and Toronto are covered.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Best Regards,
Caroline
