The Blackberry Curve 9220 is already out in some places of the world. Those who want to surf the web with its weak screen resolution will definitely want to know the keyboard shortcuts to make the browser work by pressing certain letters. It will make things go faster for the user and make web pages easier to read.

While looking at the home screen, launch the browser by choosing it with the touch pad in the middle of the smartphone. From the startup page, enter the web address of the site you would like to visit. While the page is open on the screen press the menu button ( the button that has the blackberry logo on it ). A menu will pop up on the left side of the screen with some choices. Choose the "options" from the menu. This will open up a new page where you will see a "enable keyboard shortcuts" box. Use the touch pad to go ahead and enable the keyboard shortcuts. Immediately press the menu button again and select the "save" option. Now that the shortcuts are working, the user can start to learn how to use them.

The first shortcut is the letter "W". This will bring up the ability to use tabbed browsing. If you are a person who does not like a lot of different windows open while you surf, that letter "W" is the button you want. Pressing the letter "T" will make the web page scroll to the top. This is handy if a page has their menu across the top of the document. The letter "B" will send the view to the bottom of the page. The letter "Y" will open up the browser history. Perhaps one of the most important letters is the letter "I". This shortcut is the same as the "pinch to zoom" feature that more advanced smartphones have. If a page has small text, it will get bigger with the "I" button. Once you are done, press the "O" button to return to the normal zoom size as before. If you want to view the properties of the web page, press the letter "P".

It is possible to bookmark a web page using the keyboard shortcuts as well. Use the letter "A" and a screen will open up with the options for bookmarking. To take a look at the list of bookmarks, press the letter "K". To take a look at browser options in the smartphone, press the letter "S". If the user would like to see what has been downloaded, pressing the letter "D" will bring up a new screen showing them. The page can also be searched for particular words. This is done by pressing the shortcut "F". A text box will come up. Type in the word to be searched in the box. To get rid of the box, press the "back" button on the face of the Blackberry Curve 9220. To get back to the startup page, press the letter "G". To go to the home page, use the letter "H". To go forward a page in the history, press the letter "N". Pressing the "delete" button will send the page back one step.

Another handy thing to know about the Blackberry Curve 9220 browser is how to bookmark without using the keyboard shortcuts. While viewing the page to be bookmarked, press the menu button and a dialogue menu will pop up. Choose the "add to bookmarks" selection. A new window will open, allowing the surfer to choose the title of the bookmark. Then use the touch pad to scroll to the bottom to select "add" and bookmarking will be complete. To see all the bookmarks, press the menu key and select "bookmarks".

The 9220 uses the OS 7.1 mobile operating system from Research In Motion. Other versions of Blackberry smartphones with the 7.1 platform will have similar instructions. This smartphone can handle all the present modes of Wi-Fi, so page loading speeds will be agreeable. Enjoy your surfing and use the shortcuts above to zoom around the web.
