I noticed on Ebay that many people advertise the Storm 9530 as unlocked and can be used on any carrier. If i went and bought one from VZW can it be sold to someone and used on any GSM carrier?
Thanks

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
Well the ones you get from Verizon Wireless are not "unlocked".
Starting some time (if it hasn't already) Verizon Wireless will no longer be selling the Storm without a contract.

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
That Phone will not work with any GSM provider. For the reason that Verizon is not a GSM. They are using CDMA technology, so their phones does not have any simcard slot. It is possible to be reprogrammed for another CDMA company though (ex: Sprint, Alltell, etc)
A real Unlocked Blackberry Storm should be able to accept Sim Cards from different networks.

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
What?
You contradicted yourself...you stated that this phone (Blackberry Storm) couldn't be used on any other provider other than that of another CDMA carrier.
Some CDMA phones, like the Storm, have Global abilities meaning it has a GSM SIM Card slot and some can be unlocked to be used with a GSM provider...but the unlocking process is more difficult with GSM CDMA devices (global phones).

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
As far as I know the Storm can be used under all carriers. It's CDMA, GSM, and Global.

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
All you have to do to unlock the storm is to call Verizon and tell them you are going over sea's to someplace that requires the Sim's Card to be unlocked for GSM and/or world.
It took me a couple tries, but I finally got the unlock code and now my phone can be used on any network in the US and a lot of places over seas.
That's the reason it's called a WORLD PHONE!
Honestly...I"m not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but it's one of the selling points of the phone.

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
The phone has a removable SIM card and once you have owned the phone for 60 days the SIM card slot can be unlocked by Verizon and you can use any SIM card you want.

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
Yes the 9530 has CDMA, GSM and Global network availability. Yes there is a Sim card slot, you just have to take the battery out and put one in. VZW does give out the unlock codes provided that you meet a few conditions. Here in Canada unlocking is not allowed but alas mine is unlocked thanks to one of several websites offering to find your code for a small fee. As usual Canadians continue to get screwed in the cellular world lol.
The unlock code is specific to the phones IEMI and PIN number so be wary of that. Anyone that says they have a universal unlock code is full of ****. Also most phones (including the Storm) have a limited number of attempts (10) before your phone bricks. When you unlock it, you are only unlocking the GSM portion of the phone. Since 85 per cent of the worlds cellular service is GSM that is a pretty good deal. Once unlocked you just buy a prepaid SIM card from wherever you are going and bang...no roaming fees.
Cheers

Would anyone really buy a Blackberry Storm 2 if you already had the originall?

Re: Blackberry Storm questions...
The phone can be unlocked to work on a GSM network but lacks the hardware to run GSM 3G speeds
