The phone that started it all is making a comeback as T-mobile’s HTC G2. The G1 was the first android phone to hit stores back in 2007 and is responsible for Google Androids current popularity. The G2 will succeed the G1 and prove to be T-mobiles leading super phone for the time. Starting today 9/24/2010 through 10/04/2010 the G2 will be available for pre-order. The phone will hit stores on 10/06/2010. Out of box the G2 will already be the first phone to support the HSPA+ network system putting it ahead of other smart phones that T-mobile launched this year. As usual a phone of this class will cost $199.99 with a two year contract or upgrade on launch day.

The design of the G2 is a major improvement to its predecessor. The keyboard slides out so you won’t have the awkward side flip feature that made the G1 so unattractive. The front face of the device looks slim land sleek but with a keyboard the phone isn’t really all that thin. The Keyboard is a four row QWERTY keyboard though you do have to use the alt key for the number row.

The G2 hardware includes 800MHz processor with graphics processing features, a 3.7-inch WVGA screen and a 5MP camera with flash with the ability to shoot HD video as well. The device has up to 4GB of ROM 512MB or ram. The standard battery is a 1,300mAh pack providing about 7 hours of talk time and around 400 hours of standby time

Below is a video of a benchmark test that compares the G2 to current leading smart phones.
