Need info on using highspeed data to run laptop through bluetooth

I am planning to buy a new phone soon with High-Speed data transfer. I have a laptop with Bluetooth capability and am wondering what kind of speeds I can expect on my laptop with EDGE (I am locked in with cingular.)

I do alot of gaming on my laptop and am wondering if the EDGE speed is enough to give me decent game latency? Also is the connection pretty stable if the cell has a steady signal?

I also heard somthing about using USB to get better speeds out of your High-Speed data phone, is this true and how can it be acomplished? Sorry for so many questions and TIA for anyhelp!
