Currently I have a BB curve with Sprint. I lost my job last month and need to down size the cell phone plan. My old job paid the $100 to cover my sprint unlimited plan. As I am in sales, I need voice(i talk about 3000mins per mo), text(ok to have, but i can live without) and emails(can't live with out it). I don't care about mp3, games, and web as those things are great for killing time but I need to save money.

I heard about the $50 plan from boost since my sprint plan is up anyway I can switch over to boost. I understand I need to buy a new boost phone, and a starter kit which is fine. But from I can see none of the phone support the emails service I had with my BB. This will be a deal breaker for me if I can not find a Boost phone that can handle email.

So am I out of luck? Is there any plan for boost to release any type of phone that will handle emails?
    thank you

I dont believe any of the Boost phones have the e-mail's stuff on them with the Push technology. You can have web browsing, but it won't push them to your phone such as the BB is used to. You may want to look at Metro PCS or Cricket with one of their Smartphone's as an alternative that is priced such as Bosot.

Thank you. Looks like Metro PCS will be a good fit with what I need.
Do you know if I can purchased a used cell phone on Ebay from US Cellular or Cricket but connect it to Metro PCS?

If I remember correctly, the only phone's that can be flashed over to Metro PCS are Sprint phones, so if your looking on the internet for a used one, search for Metro or Sprint Phones.

If it is infact the Sprint BB and not the Nextel BB, then just take it to a Metro PCS Store near you and have them flash it.

Just so your aware, the Metro PCS convesion is not just an unlock code, they actually have to convert the phone over to a different provider, through something called a Flash. Its similar to having it unlocked, but then locked back into a different carrier.

If you can not access a Metro PCS store near you, try doing a web search for Metro Flash and see if someone can help you on the internet somwhere with it, I am sure they can.

It is a Sprint curve not Nextel. I kind of read up on "flashing" but does the phone works 100%? I read some where that the phone will work, but it is just for talking, and texting, if you want to use the curve full features like GPS and etc it will cost a lot. I searched around and saw Metro PCS at one time was selling the curve for like $450.
I will have to find a local Metro PCS store and see how much this flashing will cost me, and if I will be able to get email which is really what I need.
    thanks

called Metro PCS store. was told that they don't Flash the phones in the New York market.
and phones that been flashed in other market will not work in NY? WTF??

I would go down to the local store and ask one of them, and Flashing should cost you about 40 bucks.

Also, you may want to search the forum for a How-To for getting the MMS and Internet working, but I do not know about getting the E-Mail to work if your looking for the Push functions, when the E-Mail shows up similar to a Text message.

Plus, I am looking on their site, and it says you can get the Curve through them for 399... and Wikipedia.org confirms they offer the Metro Flash for 40 bucks... Maybe the CSR's don't know about it, or maybe its not available in the NY market, but that wouldn't make any sense. Try going to a store if there is one close to you!

I guess I am out of luck. call another store and was told the same. NY market does not support flashing. She said areas like CA, FL, and GA will support flashing. and she said that when the phone is flashed it will only be a basic phone, to make calls, no texting, no web, no nothing. So I guess I have to research more on how people are using their BB on Metro???

There is a guy here, Tank078 I believe, and he has a way to make everything work on it, but if Metro says they won't support the BB, then I think you maybe SOL.

Have you looked to see what other phones they offer in your area?

Actually, I just looked using a Brooklyn Zip, and it shows the only Smart phone is the Finesse, that may suit your needs but its 349...

Only other thing with a Pre-paid Monthly would be something with a normal, everyday phone..

Re: will boost mobile work for me?

after doing some research. The reason why flashed phones won't work in NY is because the NY metro PCS is using a different frequency. Which is duh!!! no where does in their web site does it say I can't take my phone (assume I go to metro store in NY and buy a phone) to CA and it won't work.

no idea why Metro PCS is using different frequency in NY than the rest of the nation. Oh well. My last hope is to try taking my curve over to Cricket.
