at least with certain networks. I've been an avid Boost Mobile crusader for several years. Great service and love the unlimited plans. I've switched every single person i know who had Metro to Boost (at least the ones who are smart enough to care.) Over here in northern CA (esp. bay area), metro is the only competition for no contract unlimited plans, but the coverage is just terrible up here. But i will give Metro credit, $45 a month unlimited everything (which comes out to about $49 after tax), and it's only an extra $10/month to add an extra line to make a family plan... but i just cant stand the dropped calls, poor call quality, and lack of reception in the bay area with metro... Boost has worked great.

That being said, I was a Boost CDMA user and had no problems with them whatsover. I had a Moto KRZR and got texts super fast, clean audio quality, and no dropped calls... well that phone broke and i bought an i335 yesterday. I love the phone; its rugged, great reception and call quality and its no BS that slows down the damn UI...

The only problem is i'm starting to understand the drawback of texting on iDEN network. Texting only works well when im texting someone who is on an iDEN or CDMA network. For instance, people who have Sprint/Nextel, or Verizon get my texts right away, and i get their texts right away. Someone who text me yesterday from an iphone (att) didnt get my reply til about 17 hours later. I didnt receive his text til this morning...

It's a hit or miss really... but i just love Boost too much to leave them. im a strong believer in a no contract, flat rate, unlimited cell phone plan, and now that Boost has offered iDEN users the flat $50 (no tax or surcharges), i'm an even bigger fan (take that Metro!). I don't believe in this "contract" and "minutes" plan BS, especially since I do about 12,000 minutes and 6,000 texts a month...

i plan on getting a Blackberry 8350i and flashing it over to Boost. my only question is that will the 8350i use the CDMA network for text messaging, and will i still be able to utilize the iDEN for direct connect?

    Thanks!

I don't have the answer to your specifc question, but I wanted to comment on the texting I am in the Cincinnati, OH area and love Boost Mobile. I recently bought the i776 which is in the IDEN network. For the first 48 hours after I activated the phone, texting was horrible. Every since, it has been great no matter who I am texting on what network (verizon, ATT, etc).
Since you are a long time Boost customer, does that seem right? I've read elsewhere that it takes 24-72 hours for your phone to work 100% but I've never heard of that before on any other cell phone company.

I am a longtime Boost crusader, but I am new to the iDEN side so i can't say if that seems right.

however, i have now had my i335 for 3-4 days and texting is working normally on ALL networks. i have experienced quick send and receive times regardless of the network i am texting to. i guess it is true that it takes up to 72 hours from when you first activate your phone for text messaging to work properly. the only "gripe" i have is that the i335 has to download text messages in order to view them. i believe this is because iDEN network sends text via MMS vs SMS. there were a few times where i was notified i had a text message, and when i went to open it, i had to download it first. it didnt take long to download, about 10-15 seconds, but that's still a bit of inconvenience especially when the text message is only a few words. and this could be a bad thing if you're not getting good reception. one time when i went to download a text, my reception cut out (i live in the hills by the way) and couldnt download the message til i walked around and found better reception. however, for some reason, not all text messages have to be downloaded before viewing. its a hit or miss; it happens every now and then. not sure why... and im not sure if this is due to iDEN or my phone in particular.

i am still an avid Boost Mobile crusader though. I truely feel that no other unlimited plan or no-contract company can touch Boost. best price point ($50 a month with no tax or extra charges!), best features (unlimited talk, text, web AND walkie talkie), reliable reception, great call quality (not to mention loud too), and its nation wide. come on, even Metro can't match that... all of this is coming from someone who has had been a long time user of T-Mobile, ATT/Cingular, Verizon, and Metro...

    conclusion:

BOOST MOBILE IS THE BEST UNLIMITED NO CONTRACT SERVICE PROVIDER!!!!!

now, if only they can get better phones on their line-up...
