The road salt I suppose is bad... especially in Wisconsin...!
It doesn't bother me too much as I am a cautious driver and am always prepared and aware of who's around me at all times... I've had a number of close calls ...including an airborn Porche that passed me airborn on the left whilst travelling on the I-90 once (it was close but didn't touch my car) ...I could see entirely underneath his car as he literally flew by me and hit tail first in the median ditch! ...you've just gotta' be careful and know yours and your cars limits... and try not to get hit.

I don't mind it so much - except at the start of winter when we've had a hot summer and there is a layer of rubber on the road - the first downpour makes it real slippery!

not really very cold - never below zero
it can get down to 1 or 2 C over night and usually 8-14 C during the day - really quite mild - I only like to visit the snow - don't think I could live where it snowed in winter

I've posted this before, but we have 4 season's here:
1. Almost Winter
2. Winter
3. Still Winter
4. Road Construction
Living in this area of the country, you'd better not mind it, or move.
Tips on living in this area:
- Get a 4x4 or an all-wheel-drive vehicle
- Get a snowblower to clear the snow from behind your vehicles in the morning. (or have children, they count as the same)
- Get a remote starter put on all vehicles (even snowblower if it sits outside)(or children once again). No use going out in the cold till you have to.
- Get a hairless dog. (forget the thermostat, they usually freeze up around the end of October) Try and put him/her outside in the morning. If the dog won't go out, put a jacket on (it's going to be nippy out)
- Get a stockpile of beer going in the garage. (for those days you can't make it to work, or the roads are not drivable.....God forbid your stuck in the house without alcohol all day) (especially with the children!)
- Get a snowmobile. For those days your off work or the roads are not plowed and you have to get someplace. (you know, like the bar, after spending all day stuck in the house with the kids)
These are just some general rules to live by up in this region. As for driving in it. I don't think there is a difference to us here. We get out on the road, floor it and go. (In my case, a 2004 F-150 4x4 Super Crew with a 6" lift and 33" Micky Thompson Mudder's under it kind of help)

I'll take wintertime
I was born and raised in Michigan.
Can't get enough of that wintertime driving. If it's going to be cold and windy, we might as well get a bunch of white stuff to play in.
And I'll thumb my nose to anyone who says, "Four wheel drive doesn't make any difference in snow and ice..." If you'll notice, the people who say that seem to be the ones spinning tires at every intersection...?
But then, I'm the kind of guy who will intentionally go out driving in the blizzard so I can have my fun before the plows catch up. There's nothing better than a wide open parking lot with mountains of plowed snow all over.
Now I'm in Memphis and it snows like one time a year, maybe, and then it's only like three or four inches. It is so funny watching these people who know nothing about real winter driving...the towtruck companies make a fortune and the insurance companies turn green!
