yes and no.
putting a body kit and carbon fibre hood on a stock engine is ridiculous. however, i've considered putting in euro-style head/tail lights on my kia just for the 'looks.'
but putting kits on a high-performance tuner is worth it. a correctly chosen kit can increase aerodynamics, body weight, and a spoiler can put downward pressure on your rear axle.

Over here in the UK its a joke, people leave the engine as standard and just mod the exterior! it's a joke

yes and no like n1ckel5 said.
body kits can give u less weight on ur car which is a good thing, but some take it to the extreme with fart cans like 5" in diameter LOL . i like the clean & simple look.. like just dropped on springs and new rims and maybe throw in a tint job.. but also i love interior designs, like the ones you have custom paint job to match the car paint is hot.
goin to the extreme like drivin a AUTO car w/ an exhaust/muffler - not worth it, and with a high wing (that makes ur car look like a shopping cart) .. in this case its not worth it if you're going to make your car like that. also euro clear tailights belong only on the lexus is300.... or on a white car...... don't flame me please! lolLast edited by Drukaveli; 03-16-2006 at 06:55 PM.

lol drukaveli...
i would like to slap some people, according to what they do to their cars.
i can understand 'modding' a stock engine car...to an extent. a simple ground effect, some rims, different lights, and/or maybe an improved exhaust can make your boring car look a little more streamlined. just a nice way to make your car stand apart (not out) from the rest.
but wings? unless you're into racing, forget about it. it's dumb!!
someday, i'd like to take my rio and put a simple ground effect and some simple rims on it. just to take away the 'boring' factor.

I agree...some cars and even trucks I see make me laugh. Spend a couple grand on cosmetic stuff, and then they start the vehicle and it sounds like the rods are going to come out the valve covers.
I'm not much into new cars (old muscle cars are my thing), but a clean, well modified car will still get my attention.
For instance, this car-----> LINK is pretty nice, both inside, outside, underneath, and the motor.
By the way, it happens to belong to the owner of this forum!

I think if you don't overdo it it's worth it. It's just like buying some nice new clothes for yourself, just not for yourself, but for your car. And we know that looks are important :P

Re: Modding - Realy worth it?
I think that you should start from the inside out from the front to the back. Start at the engine it's going to cost you if your going for the whole speed demon thing. But it'll be worth it because people will think it's just a 94 integra with a crappy paint job and a little tint but then it'll put there 05 Magnum in the dust. After you spend money on your engine and get your car tuned enough to where you like it then move into the interior and get some nice bucket seats and paint the dash to match the exterior and what not. Then do a hell of a job on the exterior cosmetics then you'll have a show car which is fast and you'll have money in your pocket. Persoanlly that's what I plan to do well maybe with a little diffrent order. But it's worth it if you can when as much as you spent.

Basically if you want to modify your car you need set goals. Do you want your car to look fast, be fast, or both?
This is a very very expensive game if you really want your car to look good. Quite honestly unless you really have a lot of cash to burn it's not really worth getting into serious modifying.

I believe this is a good example of why "modders" are often looked down upon...

It depends. Body kits will help IF they replace your original bumpers and are lighter. Generally, it's not worth it unless you're really into racing. I don't support it at all and with Tokyo Drift coming out, expect lots more of it...Of course you can't say that the car is wrong for having a 5 foot wing while being FWD. It can only be called rice if the owner claims that made it faster. It might have been made to be a show car, no matter how tacky. I'd rather save up some money and get something that helps my car, such as boring the engine, a new exhaust, turbocharging it, etc...

Re: Modding - Realy worth it?
I think it really depends on why the car is being modded, and who's doing the modding. Body kits are great if the person doing the the work knows what their doing and how to make the kit as custom as possible for the car it's being installed on.
I mean who wants a kit, that the other 3000 people in a 20 mile area has?
Better IMHO to put the money into a custom paint job and enhancements that will help the car's performance, fuel useage and maintenance.
