Hi all ... I just discovered this sub-forum and thought I'd post...
I drive a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata GT ("GT" designates the only option Mazda offered, which was leather interior and canvas top, vs. vinyl/vinyl).
Stock MSMs are not so fast. Mazda claims 178hp/166tq, but that is flywheel. At the rear wheels it's around 155/140. Still a lot better than a regular Miata though (I know, used to drive a bone-stock '96).
I began modding it a couple years back. First, cold air intake. Then, upped the boost from stock of 7.5 to about 10. Upgraded the injectors from stock 265cc to 305cc. Next was the really big thing -- I had a local speed shop fabricate a custom 3"-inch turboback exhaust. It used a separated downpipe design, merging into a high-flow metal-core cat, then 3" all the way back into a Magnaflow muffler. Still pretty loud, but that's just a nice side effect; I bought it for the performance benefit (you want as little backpressure as possible for a turbo). Meanwhile I installed a steel roll bar (not a lame, fake style bar). Next (soon!) comes a Megasquirt engine management computer and even bigger injectors (460cc). In the future I want to add a larger intercooler (stock is puny and heatsoaks very easily), lighter wheels, and better brake pads.
Current setup is stock computer, at about 12 psi, which dyno'd at 213 rear-wheel horsepower and 205 ft.lb. of torque. That may not sound like much compared to modern muscle cars, but remember, this car only weighs 2,600 pounds! And since it's a Miata (with a suspension that's better than most Miatas plus extra chassis bracing), the handling is AWESOME.

Re: I'm new to this section...
So I finally got around to all those "soon" mods this summer and fall. My car now sports 460cc injectors (from an RX7) and a big-ass FMIC instead of the pathetic stock one. Also put on a set of Axxis Ultimate pads and spent many (many, many!) hours tuning the new engine computer.
Now pushing 15psi (fun) and 230-240 rear-wheel hp. Dyno chart to come one of these days.Evan Koblentz, online editor

Hey!
I have a '00 Miata LS. Currently sporting a T25 turbo, 550cc injectors, MegaSquirt standalone, and making 240hp at 16psi, but 265tq. Fun little car.

Cool, nice to meet you. I'm "evank" on miataturbo.net - are you there also?
How are you running MS standalone on an NB? I assume you either mean parallel (which is what I do) or else you're on MT already and running MS2 in an experimental mode as with AbeFM....
I haven't got the balls to run 16psi. Car spikes to 17 sometimes but only for a second or two on its way to 15 at redline. I also put a physical EBC cut-off switch in the dash so I can run wastegate pressure when desired.Evan Koblentz, online editor
